Even through her smile, the woman is worn and exhausted from living; I think her wisdom is cradling the baby, as if time aged her perfectly for this moment and to be this mother for this baby.
Inspired by a 1910 historic photograph of a Navajo mother, the original work is black on watercolor paper.
